Comments
The comment This gives more plum than purple. Made the same mistake. Plum is more magenta, and has a hue greater than 300.
The essential reason for this controversy is that, in traditional, many people often call a indigo-side blue color purple, which actually has more blue than red. But it is ACTUALLY a huge misunderstanding. The hue 300 like 800080 is indeed technically purple, with equal B and R value. However, due to the common habits and conventions in social, the color referred to by the word purple is often mistakenly blue-shifted to indigo region, which is a misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Technically, I dont agree with most people like some sensual, irrational commentators here.
Somebody even said that this is dark magenta purple is 8000ff. This is even more absurd! 8000ff is very close to 0000ff blue, and we can hardly tell the difference between them if we lack comparison. 8000ff is just INDIGO BLUE! It has nothing to do with purple, while true purple is 800080, very different from it. And called 800080 this is dark magenta is absurd too. Because true magenta is ff007f, with hue 330. True purple is 800080, with hue 300. Calling hue 300 magenta is just a traditional, irrational conventions in the description of RGB systems. But in real, the magenta of CMYK printers is closer to hue 330.
Somebody said My favorite purple is b464ff is also wrong! It has more blue value, so it is technically indigo too.
330066 is definitely NOT purple, it is actually indigo blue! Somebody mentioned aa00ff is also not purple! It is indigo, with more blue value. Somebody said Real purple is a020f0 is also wrong! It is indigo too, with more blue value. This 800080 is technically true purple, numerically with equal blue and red. We rely on data, not feelings and sensibility!
This gives more plum than purple

I know this phenomenon is technically a huge misunderstanding, but Im powerless to do anything about it. Although there is objective numerical evidence, its difficult to correct the subjective opinions of the general public! But I will always uphold my rational principles!
